Reimagined rockery

My retired customer wanted the south facing rockery in his front garden updating. It had become overgrown, unattractive to wildlife and untidy. The site was cleared of shrubs, some of which were relocated to the rear garden, and the large conifer tree removed. I wanted an informal, non-traditional feel to the rockery that would be an attractive addition to the front of the house for the owner and visitors. A wide selection of drought tolerant plants was selected and spring and summer flowering bulbs planted to add to the all year round interest. Some of the perennials are ground covering and as the other species grow to fill their spaces the final result will reduce the maintenance required to keep the rockery looking good. A new Amelanchier x Grandiflora ‘Robin Hill’ replaced the overbearing conifer giving height and more year round interest to the corner.
